Program overview

Vision Smart Kids (VSK) is an after school and summer camp for participants in Kindergarten through 8th grade. After school and summer programs are offered at four locations in Miami-Dade County, five days a week. VSK follows a structured design and offers comprehensive activities in the core areas of literacy, physical fitness, life skills, family engagement, and enrichment. The program goals are to improve participants’ literacy and fitness skills, improve study habits, and social skill development through social emotional learning. All activities occur in a safe, secure, and supervised environment. The program also offers opportunities for parent involvement through instructional activities, case management, and volunteering.

Enrollment forms can be obtained in 3 ways: 1) at each RTV school site served by RTV; 2) at the RTV office in Pinecrest, FL; 3) or online. Slots fill up fast, so it’s first-come, first-served! After school

Aligned with the school calendar, our programs extend to the year-end. Every afterschool session offers literacy support, homework help, STEM activities, arts and crafts, social-emotional learning, and physical fitness. Plus, we provide snacks at no extra cost!

Summer Camp Application & Enrollment

Enrollment Forms for our Afterschool program are available at each school site served by RTV. For a seamless process reach out via email or call. Space is limited and fill up fast, and enrollment is solely on a first-come first served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can sign up by submitting an application form. Vision Smart Kids Forms can be picked up at your child’s school site or at the ReCapturing the Vision (RTV) office in Pinecrest. You may also contact our office via phone or email to request than an application be emailed to you.

For the school year program, decisions are made near the end of July. For the Summer Camp, applications are available during the last two weeks of May. There are no specific dates for approvals/acceptance, however, you will typically hear back regarding your application within two weeks from the time you submitted your forms. If your application is complete, meaning there is no information/signatures missing, you will be contacted to be notified of the approval and of your child’s start date. If there is anything missing in your packet, then a member of our staff will be in contact with you to coordinate a time for you to fill in the missing information. We are only able to process an application once it has been completed in it’s entirety. Our program is first come, first serve. If your application was completed in its entirety but we are out of space for your child’s grade by the time it is processed, you will be notified that you have been placed on the waitlist. As spots becomes available, parents will be contacted based on the date of their completed application. Please note, we generally begin registration for afterschool during Mid-July and registration for Summer Camp typically opens in May. Please check with your corrsponding school for updates on these dates as these months approach; spaces fill quickly.

Your child needs to be attending the school where they are applying for the aftercare program and be at least 5 years old.

Parents will receive phone calls upon approval. If you receive a call, your child is enrolled. If not, your child will be placed on our waitlist. Our staff typically calls parents to provide updates on their application within two weeks from the time they submitted their packet. Someone will leave a message if they are unable to reach you and if voicemail is available. If you are past the two week mark please call our office to follow up and ensure we have the correct contact information for you. Please ensure that your handwriting is clear and legible to avoid any processing delays.

The program hours are as follows:

  K-1st Grade: 1:50 PM - 6:00 PM
 2nd-5th Grade: 3:05 PM - 6:00 PM
 6th-8th Grade: 3:05 PM - 6:00 PM

Our program is free of charge.

No, our program is free, so we do not offer financial aid or scholarships.

The program includes literacy support, homework assistance, STEM activities, arts and crafts, social-emotional learning, and physical fitness.

Snacks are provided during the program at no charge.

The ratio is 15:1 for elementary school children and 20:1 for middle school children.

Yes, we offer summer programs at the same sites as our after-school programs.

Our programs are designed for school-aged children, starting from kindergarten. Students must be at least 5 years of age to be enrolled in our programs.
